TCS London Mini Marathon 2026 – Saturday 25^th April 2026

15 pupils from our school had an unforgettable experience taking part in the recent TCS London Mini Marathon 2026, joining over 22,000 young runners from across the country at the start line on Horse Guards Parade. It was truly a fantastic day filled with energy, excitement, and sunshine.

The atmosphere throughout the event was incredible, with crowds of supporters cheering every step of the way from start to finish. Our runners rose to the occasion, showing determination and spirit to get themselves across the finish line as. One of the highlights of the day was running past some of London’s most famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, making the experience even more special and memorable for everyone involved. All pupils received a wonderful medal at the finish line, a well-deserved reward for their hard work and commitment not just for this, but also for their involvement in cross-country throughout the year.

Every pupil should be extremely proud of themselves. It was a brilliant day that will stay with our pupils for a long time, and we look forward to taking part again in the future!

We recently attended a new competition called ‘Girls Primary Fitness Games’ which brought together 7 local primary schools for an exciting and energetic afternoon focused on fitness, stamina and teamwork. We attended with 10 girls, divided into two year group teams.

The event was structured around three 16-minute workouts, with each workout combining a variety of exercises to complete. The exercises involved strength-based activities such as burpees, hand-release press-ups & air squats, as well as cardiovascular based activities such as shuttles, hurdle jumps and skipping. Within each 16 minute workout, the teams of 5 had to ensure they all participated at some point, strategically working out when to tag their team mate in to continue. The workouts encouraged the children to challenge themselves physically and mentally, whilst supporting their teammates and creating a positive and motivating environment.

After adding the scores together from both the Year 5&6 teams, we are proud to report that our team achieved a Bronze Medal overall. The team has successfully progressed to the finals, where they will have the opportunity to compete at the Finals of this competition.

Last week, all Year 5 and Year 6 girls took part in an exciting afternoon of football matches against Aberdour School. Three teams represented the school, each playing their respective opponents across the afternoon.

The matches were played in great spirit, with the girls showing teamwork, determination and enthusiasm throughout. For several players, this was their first experience of representing the school in a football fixture, and they rose brilliantly to the occasion. Across the three games, the teams worked hard to create chances and were rewarded with a number of well-taken goals. The girls supported each other from the side-lines and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship during every match.

Most importantly, everyone enjoyed the experience and gained valuable match experience. It was fantastic to see so many girls taking part and representing the school so positively. Well done everyone!

Twenty of our Year 3-6 runners took on a tough and demanding cross country course last week at the annual ISA Regional competition hosted by Radnor House School. Competing across four different age-group races between 1.5-2km distance, the route proved tricky underfoot and physically challenging, testing every child’s determination, resilience, and strategy.

Our children delivered some outstanding performances, most noticeably celebrating two top five finishes (George & Isabelle) and one top ten finish (Ophelia). A fantastic achievement for them all given that they were all racing against children a year above. These three runners qualified as national representatives for London South. At the National Finals, Ophelia achieved an excellent 41st place, competing in an age group above her own — a remarkable achievement.

Well done to all runners who represented us with such determination and sportsmanship. Everyone should be proud of their results in what was an extremely tough competition.

That ends our cross-country season, and what a fabulous time it’s been! Bring on the Summer weather where our attention will return to Athletics!

Our U11 netball team recently travelled to Lingfield College to take part in a highly competitive ISA Regional Netball Tournament featuring 18 schools. With most of our Year 6 pupils away, the squad was made up largely of an inexperienced Year 5 team who rose brilliantly to the challenge.

Despite facing several very strong and established sides, the team showed determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the day. They secured two well-earned 1-0 victories against Wandsworth & Claremont respectively. They improved with every match, growing in confidence and understanding as the tournament progressed. It was great to see them develop as individuals and as a team.

It was a fantastic learning experience for the players, providing valuable match play and setting a strong foundation as they look ahead to next year’s competition. Well done girls!

9 children from Year 5&6 had the exciting opportunity to attend the ISA National Hockey Competition held at Lee Valley Stadium, London’s Olympic Park. The competition consisted of 20 schools from across the country, so it was a real privilege to be in attendance. It was a high-level tournament with strong opposition but our children represented the school with great pride, determination, and excellent sportsmanship throughout.

In the initial group stage, we were placed in a group of 5 schools. We finished 4th in our group, recording two hard-fought 0-0 draws early on before losing the next two matches. Every match was played with great intensity and the 0-0 draws could have easily been victories if it weren’t for some excellent goalkeeping. The children showed resilience and teamwork throughout even when results didn’t go our way.

After the group stage, we were placed into the Trophy group (all 4^th place finishers), where we battled bravely but were unfortunately defeated 2-0 in the semi-final. However, we showed outstanding character to bounce back in the Trophy bronze medal match. After a tightly contested game, the result was decided by a penalty shuffle, where our team held their nerve to secure the win and take home the bronze medal. Sienna with the vital goal and Charlie with some impressive goalkeeping.

It was a fantastic experience for all involved and a great achievement to come away from such a competitive tournament with a medal. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts, and the school community will be celebrating their success during the next celebration assembly.

Our Reception children enjoyed a very special visit to Buxton Lodge Care Home this week as part of the launch of our new Buxton Buddies initiative. This exciting project will see our pupils visiting the residents each month to share activities, conversation and smiles, helping to build meaningful intergenerational connections within our local community.

This first visit coincided with National Hedgehog Day, making it extra memorable. The children and residents were delighted to meet a selection of animals brought into the home, giving everyone the opportunity to learn more about hedgehogs and other small creatures. There was lots of curiosity, gentle handling, and wonderful conversations as the children and residents shared the experience together.

The visit was filled with laughter, kindness and moments of genuine connection. Our pupils showed incredible empathy and confidence, and it was heart-warming to see how much joy their presence brought to the residents.

We are incredibly proud of our Reception class and look forward to many more visits with our Buxton Buddies throughout the year. This initiative reflects our commitment to kindness, community and nurturing social responsibility in even our youngest learners.

Our recent KS1 cross-country event was a fantastic success, with eight schools taking part in what proved to be a challenging but enjoyable afternoon of competition. The schools were: Oakhyrst Grange, Aberdour, Banstead Prep, Essendene, Warlingham Park, St David’s, Hamsey Green and St Francis.

Boys and girls from years 1&2 tackled our two-lap cross-country course, made extra demanding by the muddy underfoot conditions and the steep inclines. Despite this, we were very lucky with the weather, which stayed on our side and allowed the event to run smoothly throughout.

There were some exceptional performances across all four races, with children from every school showing great determination, resilience, and sportsmanship, echoing our Oakhyrst Grange school values. Every child navigated the course without fail and pushed themselves to the finish line.

With children scoring points for their school if they finished in the Top 10, the overall winners of the event were Aberdour School with 63 points, followed closely by Oakhyrst Grange on 58 points – congratulations to Aberdour!

Individual race winners:

A huge well done to our Year 6 pupils who assisted the competition. They all did an outstanding job supporting the event. Their help throughout the afternoon – guiding runners, encouraging participants, and keeping the course safe – was invaluable.

Well done to all pupils who took part and helped make the event such a positive and memorable experience. A final big thank you to the many parents who came to support – you made it such a wonderful atmosphere.

We look forward to welcoming more schools on 10th & 11th February for our KS2 competitions.

We are incredibly proud of our children who recently represented Oakhyrst Grange at the Surrey Schools Cross Country competition held at Reigate Priory Park. We had a total of seven Year 5&6 children competing on the day, joining over 650 runners from across the county in a fantastic celebration of running, determination, and teamwork.

All of our runners showed great resilience and commitment, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the races. These positive attitudes and teamwork truly reflected the values of our school.

We are especially delighted to share that Isabelle Loynes finished in the top 10 of the Year 5 race, earning an invitation to attend Surrey athletics training – a wonderful achievement. Final results are still being confirmed, and we look forward to sharing more news soon.

A huge thank you goes to all the parents for their ongoing support, particularly Mrs Loynes who was our Oakhyrst Grange representative.

The OGS Swimming Team competed in our first relay gala against Royal Russell on Tuesday 13th January.

The races were intense and thrilling with minimal rest between events.

The gala featured front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly relays, with the girls and boys from each year group swimming against each other. The teams displayed amazing teamwork and enthusiasm, well done swimmers.

The penultimate event was the medley relay, where children from years 6, 5 & 4 swam all 4 strokes and year 3 swam 2 legs of front crawl. The races were very exciting.

The gala concluded with a large squadron relay comprising of 16 girls from all year groups and a combined boys’ and girls’ team for the boys as we do not have enough boys in year 4.

A huge thank you to Mr Smith for driving the minibus and assisting on poolside alongside, Mrs Gorman, Mrs Harris and Miss Sumners without your support these galas cannot take place. Well done to Lizzie, Ellie & Sebastian who took part in their very first gala and of course our wonderful parent cheer squad, thank you so much for your continued support at these events.
